In US news and current events today, as schools close across the country due to COVID-19, many parents are facing the same conundrum: ‘How will my child eat meals that I haven’t budgeted for?’ One school district in Jonesboro, Arkansas, is taking the responsibility into its own hands.
Administrators, teachers, and other community members of the district meet at their schools to pack the improvised school lunches that will be brought out to students in the community. School officials have set up sites throughout the school district where students and their parents can come pick up the breakfast & lunch meals.
Many of the students in the district aren’t able to get to one of the meal distribution sites Dr. Castleberry says they’ve got that covered, as well. Dr. Flanigan is hopeful the program won’t have to last too long, but says the district is prepared to feed students, regardless.
